How is Everyone Coping With the Heat?

I'm going through two shirts, three showers and about ten pints of water a day. My flat is like an oven but I can't sit around in the nuddy for fear of leaving Arkay-sized sweat patches on the furniture. I genuinely look forward to getting to the office as it the only place I go that has effective air con (note: for those not in the know, this is a system for cooling air not a scam to rob you of oxygen).
Still, makes a ruddy pleasant change and I can't honestly remember such a good run of sun since 1989 (and yes, I'm aware some of you weren't even born then )

Perspiration. Nature's brilliant idea. In fact, I'd say it was 95% inspiration.

Works OK and when I go to bed at night as we have a ceiling fan (not a football supporter) in our bedroom. It's the time in between all this that's a nightmare.

I think it's hotter in the UK than here at the moment. That said, the shade temp is touching 32° this afternoon, but not too humid. Still too hot to sit outside, but the temp inside the house is a very comfortable 23°........
It was significantly hotter when I was in France last week but it was a dry heat, so once you were indoors or in the shade it was most pleasant. Sleeping at night wasn't a problem either.
Here in London, right now, it is soooo humid and sticky. I worked up a sweat earlier just lying motionless on the sofa - sleeping is a rare and luxurious thing of the past.

That's exactly the difference! It's the humidity that's the killer in the UK.
Here, windows okay wide open at night, so nice & cool and no problem sleeping. Have to put bug screens in place though to keep the local flying nasties at bay.

Met office stats for at least one UK weather station exceeding 28 degrees for more than 10 consecutive days:
1976 - 22
1995 - 17
2006 - 16
2003 - 13
1989 - 12
1990 - 11

We're currently on day 11, so another week of this, and it will be the second longest spell since the infamous 1976 summer. Having completed my first year at uni, I remember doing a 2-week trek from Exeter to Lands End in weather just like this, long days of unbroken sunshine - it was fabulous (but hot).
I remember '89 being a scorcher but not the other years. 2006, really? I don't remember that. Feels like we haven't had a "proper" summer for a long time.
I'm suffering from "heat grump" today. Every thing that doesn't immediately go my way or do the thing I want it to do it's making me excessively annoyed. Right now, I'm very angry with the washing machine for being just that little bit TOO loud...

Short term memory loss. It's an age thing.
Two words, I'm not. My office is like a sauna and I've got very little done at all this week. Just lucky my interview process was done in the library yesterday which is the only room in the school which is air-conditioned.
