Sunderland and O'Neill depart.

Personally I think he's a good manager and I reckon most PL sides would welcome him.
However, I can see where the big-wigs are coming from. A team of that calibre with the likes of Sessegnon, Larsson, Adam Johnson, Stephen Fletcher and *cough* Danny Graham, they should be easing to mid-table, if not pushing for that Europa League spot.

While Sunderland may not be performing where they should be, sacking the manager after losing to Man Utd seems a little harsh.

Hard to believe they're just 1 point from the drop mind.

Did some fact digging and found out that over the seasons 9 teams facing relegation have sacked their manager this late in the season, none of which have survived. Whilst Sunderland are not currently sitting in the bottom 3, it just goes to show that a rash decision such as this very, very rarely pays off.

It has been on the cards for a while now tbf.
Great manager but it just hasn't worked out for him up there.

.....a loss to Blackburn on Monday and he might be on his way here.....
Find the timing of this strange, considering we've just had a two week break.
I like O'Neil and he made some decent signings at Sunderland - they are massively under-performing

De Canio on his way to Sunderland, apparently..... is ditching O'Neill for him really the best way to ensure they avoid relegation?
