I knew. I had a mate who was a stupidly avid Prince fan. He wrote Manic Monday and that Chakka Kahn number 1 and some crap for Martika as well.

Prince released a live version of his song featuring Rosie Gaines on his Hits triple album (i agree with those that say nothing compares to the Sinead o' Connor version though)

He is supposedly one of the most prolific songwriters around so god knows how much unreleased stuff is sitting in his vaults. This is a list of 40 of his hits for other artists though

Hugely so i would say. I used to be a big Prince fan. I still am of his old stuff but i stopped following his career at one point (probably when he went more independent and didn't have the same level of promotion for his records).
Anyway there is a documentary which is shown every now and again on BBC4 i think. Describing his career from the early days. He was basically accomplished at keyboards, bass, guitar and drums even before he hit a recording studio. The moment he had access to a recording studio he soon became proficient behind the mixing desk too. Talking of his list of hits is pretty meaningless i suppose as popularity and talent don't always go together but from a personal point of view i think his body of work through the 80's to the mid 90's is excellent. Many people, myself included, would argue that he is a better dance than Michael Jackson. The couple of live shows i saw him play are still my favourites of all time.

Lucky indeed Trash. After most of his arena type shows he would usually hit a small club and keep playing in a private session with invited guests. Those gigs are supposedly even more legendary than his official concerts.
