There was a fair amount of discussion last month about Cardiff's weakened team in the FA Cup, which was considered by some to be disrespecting the competition. Yesterday, Swansea fielded a weakened team at Liverpool in order to keep players fresh for Wembley next Sunday, and got thrashed 5-0. So presumably they can be viewed as disrespecting the Premier League?

If we were regarded to, then so were they but I don't really have a problem with that. Ian Holloway made the point a few seasons back that squads are there to be used how the manager sees fit and not to be picked or punished by the FA - plus, who is to determine what the best eleven are for any given tie?

On the face of it, Swansea are safe this season and are unlikely to break the top six and gain European qualification BUT if they win the cup they can and increase their standing and reputation in Europe. It's a no-brainer really and a sensible managerial call IMHO.

Beside, they got their just desserts by being humiliated by their ex-manager.

It is all perfectly acceptable these days in the eyes of the governing bodies of footie and clubs can set their priorities and utilize squads accordingly.

That doesn't prevent certain less well-informed fans from having a pop at their favourite target when the opportunity presents........ Swansea disrespect the league? 3392635135

They are more than safe they should be pushing for 5th... if they'd won they would have been 4 points behind Arsenal admittedly having played a game more but with with Arsenal wobbling like Lisa Riley on a pogo stick... Dylan Thomas was spot on when he described Swansea as the graveyard of ambition Swansea disrespect the league? 1525230823

With the League Cup Final and a place in European competition at stake next weekend, the Swansea Management Team took what many will see as a sensible decision and rested 7 players. I don't like this approach, and rivalry apart, I'm glad that Liverpool gave them the thrashing they deserved. Nasty dent to the goal difference; let's hope they don't drop one or two places in the Premiership at the end of the season because of it! Or at least, they are hoping!

A pragmatic approach I think. Can't really knock them for it. It's a opportunity to win a proper trophy, and get into Europe. The cup final looks like a different proposition when you are established in the top flight rather than fighting to get into it.
