What's the story about misbehaving carrot crunchers yesterday? Inside the ground they showed more enthusiastic support for their hapless team than the old cider guzzlers have done for many years. Were they naughty little boys however? Wurzel tantrums? 4268314175

To be fair to them, many of the posters on their fans messageboard are embarrassed and annoyed by the behaviour of a small minority of their fans yesterday.

Sadlt it may be some time before we are reacquainted with our dear friends and their combine harvesters and frankly I'm not sure I will miss them too much.

Funnily enough, I was thinking the same thing earlier. Back when I hardly missed a game at Ninian Park 1965 - 1974, the Brizzle City game was the big derby...............really bad memories come flooding back, but that's another story.

Anyway, looking at the 40 years since, the two clubs have only spent 17 seasons in the same division, so I guess the rivalry has diminished somewhat with the rise of our friends from down West.

..........just further to what I say above, apart from the period 2006/2007 to the present when both clubs have been in the Championship, City & Brizzle have only spent two consecutive seasons in the same division once since 1975. The previous fierce rivalry has naturally been dumbed-down during that 30 year period.

During the same period City & the Jacks have been in the same division on 16 occasions and all but three years of those between 1979 - 1999. The other three were during their most recent rise from obscurity to the Premiership. Interestingly, in the earlier 13 seasons, the Jacks consistently finished higher that City, which no doubt helped stoke up the resentment many City "fans" feel towards that fine club down west........ I imagine the last sentence is full of irony TDA?

When I was 'growing up' on the Grange End and then the Bob Bank, between 1969 and 1980 I'm not sure Iwas ever aware of our dear friends from the Wretch as they were consistently a 3rd or 4th tier outfit.

Exactly right! Cardiff & Swansea didn't start playing each other regularly until 1979, so during the period that we were probably occasionally standing within a few yards of each other, Swansea were a non-entity, so far as a serious rivalry was concerned.

Even in my time as a fan I remember more animosity towards Newport County than anyone else. I only really became aware of the Swansea thing I the last 10 - 15 years or so.

It's funny how things at a football club, such as rivalries, can evolve over time, without many realising.

Would be strange, but fantastic, to think that in a country far way from our own, thousands could be sitting down to watch 'the big game, between Cardiff & QPR next season...
