New Microsoft Tablet revealed: Looks awesome
Page 1 of 1 • Share
Check out the new Microsoft tabled called 'Surface'. Personally, I think it is pretty sexy looking - the keyboard is changeable to different colour.
http://www.microsoft.com/surface/en/us/default.aspx - the launch video is pretty ott but I'm tempted. I've already got a windows 7 phone and love it.
What does everyone else thing? Anyone else fed up of apple?

Not fed up of apple at all, got lots of their kit, but this does look very good. The top end one seems to be vying for the tablet and ultrabook market. Be good to see how it works in real life...

The thing is, Microsoft will start to dominate the tablet world for a bit once this is released until Apple convert the iPad to using Lion etc. the same operating systems as their macbook's etc.
The new Windows tablet will be running Windows 8 meaning it can use applications like Word, Photoshop, etc just as a pc running Windows 8 could. The only downside to this tablet is that the graphics aren't going to be good enough for high end gaming. A gaming tablet is still some way off.
The reason Microsoft can easily use Windows 8 is because they own the OS and therefore do not need to pay anything for license rights whereas other third party companies would have to.
Expect these to sell well until Apple gets fed up, says enough is enough, and then decided to whack a desktop OS on its iPad. I actually wouldn't be surprised if at the same time the iPad was renamed at the same time to give it a brand new launch name for marketing reasons.

Microsoft need to up their game big time, as the desktop is going the way of the dodo. And in related business news, Nokia are now entirely dependent on the MS mobile OS. Two massive companies fighting for their survival IMO.

Tried it as a VM at home, I not liking it as a desktop OS, looks good as a tablet OS though...

I like the look of the new Windows 8 metro system. It looks really good and integration between more social things will be easier. For example, xbox live will be integrated and rumours in the future of PC games being able to play xbox gamers. The more the integration comes along, the sooner such things can become a reality.
Also, for those that don't like it, there is an option to go back to standard desktoo so it doesn't matter, everybody is kept happy.

Apple are trying to get out of the computer hardware business, to focus solely on phones and tablets.
If I am not mistaken, both IOS and Android are based on Linux/Unix right?
Microsoft still have a big battle on their hands.

iOS and Android are yup. Different variations of UNIX. Microsoft will dominate for years when it comes to Office work or gaming. Apple's security problems and them not being that open will hinder them in both. Preferably, the best option is to use Windows and dual boot with Linux Debian or another type of Linux. I prefer Debian for a number of reasons.

Very laggy even on a 19mb connection. :laughingabit: Im guessing its because its cloud based rather than running client side. Not really tablet gaming but still something to watch out for in the future. I like the idea of internet tv's using it though, thats a brilliant idea.
I can see Microsoft trying to get business with a few classics like Rayman and so forth on the Surface, brilliant idea.
