A interesting little article on WO

I wonder, who would you guys say?
For me, it has to be Whittingham at £350,000 6 years ago. He is without doubt an amazing talent coupled with the rare loyalty that he has displayed. I think we will all look back in 15/20 years time and say that we were lucky to see Whittingham play.

Agree with you Rhys.
Just hope he completes the story of an epic journey with Cardiff and takes up to the Premiership.
If he does, next statue outside the ground.

I've followed City since 1966 and there have been some great servants of the club in that time. Don Murray and Brian Clark immediately spring to mind, but without a doubt, the most talented player I have seen in a City shirt is Peter Whittingham. Factor in his temperament, consistency and loyalty and there really is no-one else to consider.

Difficult to argue with Whittingham among the best, but Kavanagh provided some value for money as well.
Going a bit further back Paul Ramsey was another good acquisition, a real leader in central midfield.
For the fee at the time, Gavin Gordon is possibly the worst signing.

Yup, Whitts must be a contender. I'm not sure if he really counts as a signing as he came through the ranks but Earnie must be close to being best value for money, ever. Cost nothing, scored a hatful of goals then sold on for a massive profit. City legend

Whitts was a signing - £350,000 from Villa in January 2007. For his first two-and-a-half seasons with us he was pretty peripheral, some great bits of skill on occasion, but not often enough, and he too frequenty went missing during games. Then he hit his purple patch in 2009/10, scoring goals for fun and has been a major force for us ever since.Arkay v2.0 wrote:Yup, Whitts must be a contender. I'd also throw in Brian Clark and Ian Gibson as contenders.

It's really difficult to compare the Whitts of 2007 with that of 2012. Almost two different players in my mind.

Oh what the hell, ill throw Bellamy into the mix. Hasn't achieved as much as people like Whitts, but acquiring a player that only last year was playing at the top of the premiership is a great signing.

Mark Hudson, leader of men, Braveheart, only defender who launch his body in front of defender, would launch body in front of heat seeking missile for his country because he is fearless.
Anyone disagreeing is wrong. If there was a god of defenders then Mark Hudson would not be it, he would be one place above.

Have some flair sir!
Hudson has certainly gone a big journey - not too many seasons ago he was 'Hudson the donkey' - crazy to think that now.
I would certainly say he is the best defender and captain that we have had in my lifetime.

Good shout actually. He had a rough start to his City career but these days he's the spine of the team. I think we'll miss him next match more than we would Whitts.

I can't disagree with that statement at all.
