Heard this on the radio today... Took me straight back to being turned down by ropey lasses for a slow dance during the 'erection selections' at the end of Comp Discos... Normal routine was to take the rejection stoically, bow slightly and then the walk of shame back to my bottle of panda pops and half eaten packet of space dust...
What songs were there to cut you down when you were in school?

We used to line up to dance this. The lines used to face each other. I twice placed myself next to a girl way above my station and twice when we reached the "It's just a jump to the left!" I jumped the same way as people facing me. My whole line would jump left and I would jump right. Still, school is for learning and I learned that a mid air body slam is not a good ice breaker. I also learned that the second time you do it, no one will believe it was an accident. I also learned what Sian Robinson's mother looked like when she came to pick up her daughter who was feeling a bit sick after I caught her with a full elbowed leap into the side of the head.

Worse still was getting a dance and then when the lights came having to walk across the floor with what looked like a fun sized Mars Bar wedged in your trouser pocket....

And not the kind of Mars Bar the girls ever wanted a nibble of either

Brings back memories of this tune.....

Rhys and I must've been to the same East 17 orientated school discos. The Paget Rooms was the place for us Stanwell folk and this was one of those dancing-side-to-side-try-not-to-stand-on-her-toes-crap-slow-dance tunes.

Not humiliation or embarassment, just bitter dissappointment.
Danced to this with the cutest girl I've ever seen, Kassiopi Corfu about 1984. Afterwards under the moonlight we kissed.
Thought it was going to be the start of a beautiful holiday romance.
Next morning she flew home..................to Birmingham.
Bugger.

Birmingham?
School disco?
Surely it's against the laws and mores of the universe not to have... (even if the video was filmed in London)

By the 80s I had wrestled control of at least some of my wardrobe from my Mum.
Corfu 1984 was white jeans, espadrilles (without socks, obviously) and my sleeveless Adam and the Ants T-shirt.
I was looking cool.
