On both occasions that the team walked out, Ali failed to refer to us as "The Bluebirds".
Just worried that instructions may have come from above to slowly erode the bluebirds references.

It's that I'm so used to hearing it, that the sudden omission seems odd.
Also, why start to leave it out now?
PS, I'm guessing that mm had been making an issue of it over there.

Not sure it really matters as essentially the team is still called the Bluebirds regardless
Personally, I think it is a fairly crap emblem and nickname. It bears no resemblance to Cardiff as a City and it's origins seem fairly vague and whimsical.
If it's a new era then maybe we should consider a new nickname too? Something that does actually represent the City of Cardiff and what it is about.
I'm not sure Dragons is the way forward mind. Even 'The Miners' has at least a rugged let's-do-business attitude about it. The Taffies? The Daffodils? The Drunkards? Ok, I admit it, I might be clutching at straws now...

How about 'The Nearly Men'? Or 'The Hog Roasters'?
Servile Suckers had quite a ring to it too...

I like The Bluebirds as a nickname, it is unique in professional sport (to my knowledge) and arose naturally rather than being given after a telephone vote or some such nonsense.
If it means anything to our support we can still sing it; if it doesn't it will fade away.

Maybe I got it all wrong then as I've heard various stories about where the name came from, do you know the correct one Kamuza? Or does anybody for that matter?

The Cardiff Severns sounds good. Severn = water nymph. It has the advantage of probably attracting egg chasers expecting to see a different game.

Now THAT's a rebranding that could net us some money.

No one knows for sure; which I quite like. We were sponsored by Bluebird Toffee for a while in the sixties but the nickname predates the sponsorship. We were The Citizens during our golden period of the 1920's but The Bluebirds post-war. Graham Lloyd wrote a book for our centenary and suggested in it that the play O Bluebird of Happiness might have been the source of the nickname but his research hadn't unearthed a definitive reason.
As I've said, the nickname isn't like the shirt colour: we as supporters can keep it alive, all we need do is sing it.

Barrow AFC are also known as The Bluebirds. I don't know why.

They were called the Ziggers until fairly recently - there's a suggestion that Bluebirds came from a name conferred on their social club in the late 60s by the winner of a competition.Man Of Harlech wrote:Barrow AFC are also known as The Bluebirds. I don't know why.
Abertillery Bluebirds AFC are also (surprisingly) known as the Bluebirds.
I don't think we can decide on a nickname, it has to grow gradually. Personally, the only time I refer to the Bluebirds is when we all chant to the players after we've scored a goal. Any other reference is on the lines of "I'm going down the City", "I'm pissed off with the City", "The City played rubbish today", etc.

Particularly the last one.

Well the kcb's had to find something to moan about.
The Ayatollah is not representented anywhere on the badge or stadium, but that shows no sign of disappearing, because the fans keep it going. The same will be true of the bluebirds
