A high percentage of the posters on AAMB are obsessed with the need for the Club to sign a 20+ goals per season striker. Do they realise that only Southampton of the three promoted teams last season had such a striker. Reading's top scorer was Le Fondre with 12 goals. Carlton Cole was West Ham's top scorer with 14 goals. However both Reading and West Ham had midfield players who contributed significantly to the goals scored by these teams throughout the season. In my opinion, goals need to come on a fairly regular basis from players such as Gunnarson, Whittingham, Bellamy and Kim Bo Kyoung if we are going to emulate the success that Reading and eventually West Ham had last season.

Our midfield will rarely contribute if Malky insists on playing them so deep. I think a 4-1-2-1-2 is the best option but he'll never play it. It's a shame. We have, once Kim Bo is back, enough attacking flair to scare the crap out of teams and keep them under constant pressure probing to find an opening but we don't seem to do that. Blackpool did it as did Reading and they go their rewards for it.

Personally I'd go for a 3-1-1-2-1-2

I'd try and sneak a 4-1-2-1-2-1 past a few refs

Bellamy would get close to 20 if he played through the middle instead of being wasted out wide (IMHO).

You're absolutely right. I think Mason could also get close to 20 goals given a chance and played in the right position.G-ster wrote:Bellamy would get close to 20 if he played through the middle instead of being wasted out wide (IMHO).
MM has brought in some excellent players, but as far as I am concerned the jury is still out on his ability to get the best out of them.

If watch the Brighton highlights though are midfield were definitely involved in the attacking play. We were unlucky not to be up 2 or 3 nil by halftime. The ball just didn't land right.
I say stick with it and it won't be long before the goals go flying in. 4 points against two really tough teams is a good bit of work for the opening games of the season.
I fancy us for 3 points on Saturday.
