How much further damage would have done to himself by carrying on! I have been fortunate enough never to have suffered an athletic injury but I did snap my satchel strap once running for the school bus as a nipper... I pulled up immediately but the damage was already done and the contents of my pencil case case were all over the fecking shop.... I had pencil shavings in my lucky 'Gonk's' hair for months...
