Another Olympic cheat thrown out

Just reported by the beeb, an Algerian athlete has been thrown out of the Olympics for deliberately not trying. He'd qualified for the 1500m "in style", but was also entered in the 800m, had wanted to withdraw from that to concentrate on the 1500m, but the withdrawal wasn't made in time. He was forced to run in the 800m heat, stopped part way round and wandered back across the infield. Referee decided he hadn't made a bone fide effort and red carded him from all events.

Exactly the same situation as the badminton players IMO. Coe and Ovett never had a problem with running in both events. Good to see consistency from the refs.

What about that Nigerian athlete that is midway through a court case for stabbing a man, and was given bail to compete? Can't remember his name or event, will have to check.

EDIT-Ezekiel Kemboi, 3000m steeplechaser. Charged with stabbing a woman who declined his sexual advances, bailed for games. And he's Kenyan not Nigerian, do I feel pretty racist right now.

The Algerian who was thrown out of the Games for not trying in the 800m yesterday was reinstated following a doctor's note that he had an injury.....he's now won the 1500m, with no sign of the injury!
