New rankings have been released, and they've been rather kind to us.

An improvement of 22 places from 71st to 49th.

Ah, just think if Bale had stuck that chance in and we'd have held on against Croatia! Still, fantastic progress, we're going in the right direction!

According to the FIFA rankings, Belgium are a better team than Brazil.

Says it all.

Brazil haven't played a ranked game in a while though, we can expect to see them much further down by the time Rio 2014 comes around. Belgium also deserve to be where they are, great team.

I understand the reason it's happened, but it doesn't make it any less stupid. England are apparently still one of the worlds elite too, and I'm happy to say that's just as absurd.

See what you're saying... Croatia are now the fourth best side in the world, with Columbia is sixth place. Mental!

They win the majority of their games though, I guess.

Well, as our roads to Wembley in 2008 and 2012 prove - you can only beat what's in front of you.

Yeh Belgium are a really good, exciting young team, I'd fancy them to beat anyone in the world on their day and I include Brazil (a shadow of what they once were) in that. Look at the players playing in the Premier League alone...Fellaini (25), Kompany (27), Hazard (22) Vertonghen (25), Vermaelen (27), Mirallas (25), Lukaku (19), Dembele (25), Benteke (22) all have their best years ahead of them and would get into the England sqaud AT LEAST. Then you have Mertens (25), Witsel (24), Defour (25).

It's scary how good they can be and I see them as a good outside bet for the world cup next year and serious contenders for the Euros 2 years later.

Chelsea have some very good young Belgian players currently out on loan:

Left-winger Kevin De Bruyne (21) – at Werder Bremen
Keeper Thibaut Courtois (20) – at Atletico Madrid

It really is a ‘golden generation’ for them, and perhaps they could do better than the team from 1986 who finished 4th at the World Cup (with Jan Ceulemans, Enzo Scifo, Eric Gerets, Jean-Marie Pfaff, etc)

I know it's 3 years away, but they are 8th fav's for the Euros. Look at Belgiums 22-27 year olds and then look at England's or, say, Portugals and there is no contest.

I'm officially tipping Belgium to win Euro 2016. Please feel free to bookmark this topic!
