Death of football, etc.

Thats because AC are in massive debt.

Italian football is in pathetic state of affairs.

All of this news broke on the heels of a report, published last week, that says Italy’s Serie A clubs owe a collective €2.6 billion in debt. This isn’t an estimate or a guess; it’s the work of the Italian soccer federation (FIGC) with help from PriceWaterhouseCoopers, and it’s comprehensive and damning. Among the findings:

Only 19 of Italy’s 107 soccer teams reported a profit in 2011.

The net loss for those 107 teams was €428 million last year.

Attendance dropped 4.4% in 2011, though this was not evenly distributed across all divisions (-2.4% in the Serie A; -19.9% in the fourth tier league).

Did not know about the substantial debt in football over there. With PSGs ambitous owners I can see a few more going there after these two.

AC Milan admit today they need to sell both to balance books and start a new era. They ironically said something similar when they sold Kaka for 60/70m, whatever the figure was.

Haha. Too true. Berlusconi is a tight git but Galliani is a transfer wizard and they're always in the CL so they'll be alright. This money will mainly go to debts. If you take in their wages, the total money/savings from this could be worth over €170M.

Ibra's agent is in Paris now. They have already signed Lavezzi for €30M. This is insane. Its like Man City or Chelsea spending their money wisely.

Have you seen some of the comments coming from the PSG owners? They want to become the biggest team in the world soon. Obviously it depends how you define 'biggest club' but in my opinion it would take them decades to get even close to clubs like Real, AC, Barcelona, Liverpool, United etc. They do not have the rich history that those clubs do and that can only be gained by consistently dominating in domestic and european competitions.

A little naive isn't it? They have always been known as perennial underachievers, and with this money and the fact that Paris, perhaps uniquely for a world city, is home to only one big club, means that they will undoubtedly become one of the biggest. Top 5 within 20 years perhaps. But yes. Saying they want to be the biggest soon is silly. I hope this summer is their only real splurge. A necessity really with FFP coming. Which, funnily enough, is the reason Milan sold the two of them to PSG.

Perfectly summed up. Hopefully the FFP will stop more clubs and billionaire owners thinking they can buy their way to the top. My worry is that some clubs will find a loophole somewhere so that they can spend hundreds of millions.

The only way they'll become the greatest team in the world is if a Euro super league is introduced. Until then, they wont get any credit for winning their league and until you're put to the test in your domestic league you're not going to win the Champions League. Players thrive on form and when they can easily win the domestic league performing at 60% (if that) of their peak performance then its going to be extremely hard to rise to the occasion of CL football.

The best teams in Europe are from England, Spain, Italy and Germany - all from competitive leagues where players are tried and tested nearly every week against the best. They go into European games in form and ready for the challenge.

In the last 20 years of CL football that trend has been broken 3 times. Porto under Mourinho in a competitive league against Sporting and Benfica when Porto didn't have as much dominance. Ajax when the dutch league was strong, they were notorious for good football and defensively solid and the other being Marseille during a period when the French League was massively competitive and some great players were in abundance in France and was the start of their golden era of talent. I believe they won it in 93 and then the international side went on to win WC98 and Euro2000 which just proves the talent breaking through at that time in France.

I cant see PSG doing anything in Europe. They're players will be content with winning the league and that'll lead to complacency in the CL.

Perhaps, unless it ends up FM style where the domestic league becomes a sideshow. Tbf with a few improvements that team could win the CL in a few years.

And it is done. One of the biggest transfer scenarios in history.
