A shame, but you can't begrudge this player anything. Been terrific for City and his country, so if there is the chance of a mega contract before the end of his career, he deserves it.
I doubt whether City could match what would be on offer from abroad and playing for us in the Premier League wouldn't be much fun in any event.

That won't happen for all sorts of reasons......loyalty on both sides being high up on the list.

Loyalty or not, he sees his long term future away from here. Would be crazy not to get some money in.

If he doesn't want to, he doesn't have to go anywhere until the summer, by which time he will have been on World Cup duty as captain of his country.
His contribution for the rest of the season in maybe getting City promoted would be worth far more to the club than a couple of £m in January.

Ah yes, thank you.
Can't really argue with any of that really.
Can't blame him. Even if he has an average World Cup, as captain of Iceland his profile will be higher than ever. On a free transfer he should get a nice little wage package, too.

In fairness he hasn’t forced the club into selling him, which he could have done when he returned on a high from the Euros into the Paul Trollope led disaster. He’s just hedging his bets in case we don’t go up.
