I was quite intrigued by this piece on the Beeb about Watford and there is something to be said that press and pundits will spin a story very easily on what is right in front of them without scratching the surface of what is going on behind the scenes. I do wish they'd gone into more specifics, however, as it felt like "half a truth" rather than an "inconvenient one":

I have to agree that building the club and team stability around a head coach is not necessarily the best thing to do as they could leave at any point; they are right to build that sense of continuity around other more permanent staff, like hands-on owners.

This is what I worry about for our own club, we are not planning at all for post-warnock it seems to me. At least publicly.

Bedding in a new manager/head coach can be hugely disruptive - proper succession planning is essential.

The Watford model of stability and continuity is actually really good in my view!

We don't know what planning is going on at City, but the transformation under NW will not have gone unnoticed by the club's hierarchy.

Whether they embrace that as the model for the future of the club or whether it is an opportunity to make the club more attractive to a buyer remains to be seen.

I hate to say it but Swansea had a not dissimilar approach for years that brought them to where they are now. They built an ethos and employed managers that fit that rather than the other way around.

In Swansea’s case the only time they really veered away from that approach was with Bob Bradley, which was disastrous and shows that if something isn’t broken, don’t try and fix it

Watford have been very lucky to have nabbed Silva. He’s an excellent manager
