Very complicated. The good news is that these are classed as competitive games, so we can throw in some of the younger, so far uncapped players.

Friendly against USA on a Friday night in Cardiff next month, followed up by away game. I'd field experimental squads in both.

That's good they're classed as competitive and I completely agree about the make up of the side. Some of our players have served us well but are on their international last legs.

Players like Andy King and Dave Edwards have always done their best, but looking beyond them, who do you look to exclude?

Ledley is still far better than most around, even if for only half a game. Ashley Williams is getting on a bit, but still playing at the highest level. James Collins will probably slip quietly away now.

We are weak up front where Vokes and Robson-Kanu don't really cut it, but where are the alternatives?

Whoever tops group B plays one of the other group B winners in a semi final then winner of that game plays winner of other semi final in a final winner of that qualifies! As for other permutations wait until it gets clearer, what I'm not sure about is group A as harder games than group B (probably) i assume its to give lesser ranked teams better opportunity to qualify?

There are alternatives coming through from the same group as Woodburn, albeit more slowly.

I'm intrigued by this whole concept - I do like the idea of an International League but have my doubts about whether it will work in the long term. We shall see.

The problem as I see it, is not so much the longer term, as you have highlighted some gems in the pipeline, but the dearth of really good Welsh 20 -24 year olds. Ben Davies aside, there is no-one of Premier League class, and, so long as there is the hire & fire culture in the PL, good home grown talent is going to be stifled, or of secondary importance at best.

I can cope with us having to bring in the youngsters due to the lack of quality at 20-24 year olds. It gives those young players the opportunity to confirm their allegiance to Wales and also become used to playing within the full setup. Most of them are expected to be good quality players in the future anyway so I would rather see them involved for the next campaign than players at the end of their international careers that are solid but unspectacular such as King and Edwards. Additionally I’d like to give Poole a chance at centre back, Ampadu in defence or midfield and Roberts and/or Broadhead a chance up front
