In truth, James Bonds are a bit like Doctor Whos really. I think you tend to favour the one that you grew up watching. For me and Tache (being sprogs of the early 80s) it probably was Moore and Davidson and regardless of whether they were the best or not, they were the ones I saw the most.

Anybody care to agree or (more likely) disagree?

I am old enough and lucky enough to have enjoyed all of the Bond portrayals as they happened.  Much as I liked Roger Moore as an actor, he wasn't right for the James Bond role. Pierce Brosnan was born to be Bond, but I think Daniel Craig's more flawed character is brilliant and would be my choice.

Similarly, my choice for Dr Who would be Patrick Troughton.

Have to agree TDA, Daniel Craig would be my choice, Moore was just a little too much cheese, and I'm a child of the 70's, his Bond girls weren't too shabby though. On the matter of Dr Who, there is only one choice, Tom Baker.

Yes, Tom Baker was excellent. A close run thing between them. I think Baker modelled his Doctor on the offbeat character that Patrick Troughton created.

Moore was a bit too young for me to look up to at his peak. My hero when growing up was Douglas Fairbanks Jnr.

Cary Grant as well but he's obviously quite recent. Surprised he's not on tv much these days.

Ah, just remembered that was Errol Flynn, not Douglas Fairbanks Jnr. They both took buckling their swashes to new heights ....
