Cardiff City keeper David Marshall has drawn the attention of Derby County as the Rams look to strengthen the goalkeeper position.
Marshall has been with the Welsh club for six seasons following his move from Norwich City back in 2009, and has played over 200 times for Cardiff.
An integral part of the side that won promotion to the Premier League in 2012-13, Marshall’s vast experience would be a huge asset to Derby should they pursue a transfer.
Marshall’s reputation was further increased following his single-season-stint in the Premier League, as he was voted into Sky Sports Team of the Season.
The 30 year-old keeper has also got experience at International level, having played 17 times for Scotland and earning caps at U21 level.
Much will depend on how the season ends for Derby whether Marshall would be partial to a move, although if they achieve promotion a deal for the stopper would be much more plausible.
With one game left to play, Steve McClaren’s men sit two points inside the play-offs, needing just a point to secure their spot due to their superior goal difference over Brentford and Wolves.

I think Marshall falls into the same category as Peter Whittingham as being someone who is genuinely happy at the club. Like Whittingham, it will be a great shame when he does eventually move on one day.

Hard to imagine any player being happy at the club at the moment. If they are, they deserve a bloody good kick in the backside.

The Cardiff City changes you can expect to see this summer as up to 23 players could be sold or loaned

Terry Phillips assesses the current squad and looks at who's staying, who might leave and what Russell Slade needs to focus on in the transfer window
The players expected to leave Cardiff City this summer
Cardiff City insist they will be back in the transfer market for new players this summer, so that means a number of faces are likely to be leaving.
Here, Terry Phillips assesses the current squad and looks at who's staying, who might leave and what Russell Slade needs to focus on in the transfer window.
Goalkeepers
How have they done?
David Marshall is the No.1 shot-stopper in Championship football despite a tough season like many of his City colleagues. Some questionable protection at times for the Scottish international has seen City concede 60 goals in 45 matches – and 12 of their Championship rivals have a better defensive record than that.
David Marshall conceded three against Bolton
Simon Moore is a solid back-up, who was called upon when Marshall suffered an ankle injury in January and then a groin problem in March, but must work to put the Scot under pressure.
Who’ll stay?
Marshall could again attract interest from top flight clubs this summer but he’s under contract until 2018 and enjoys life in South Wales. He simply must be City’s No.1 next season. Moore will again provide back-up with 22-year-old former Accrington and Sunderland stopper Ben Wilson the third option.
Who could go out on loan?
None
Who could leave?
Joe Lewis is the obvious candidate having spent the current season on loan at Championship basement boys Blackpool. His season ended earlier this month with an ankle problem and it’s unlikely he’ll force his way back into Russell Slade’s selection reckoning on his return to the Bluebirds.
What they need?
One area that needs no strengthening should Slade keep hold of Marshall and Moore.

Defenders How have they done?
Lee Peltier looks likely to be first choice right-back and is a potential captain. Fabio and Scott Malone will fight it out on the left, but both need to improve defensively. In the middle of defence Bruno Manga and Sean Morrison have been a regular pairing, with Gabon international Manga on the weekend voted the Bluebirds’ Player of the Season.
Who’ll stay?
I believe four full-backs in Peltier, Kevin McNaughton Fabio and Malone alongside a central defending quintet of Manga, Morrison, Ben Turner, Matt Connolly and Semi Ajayi. Connolly is among City’s most consistent defenders, but was sent out on loan to Watford and earned his own fourth promotion, having previously gone up with Reading, QPR and Cardiff.
Turner is now fit for action after an injury-ravaged campaign. I could not understand why McNaughton was offered a one year contract extension by Cardiff City and then sent out on loan to Bolton with no recall clause. He had to stay with Wanderers. McNaughton missed the end of this season after suffering a fractured fibula in his right leg almost two months ago, but will be in Cardiff for talks with Slade next week.
Who could go out on loan?
Congo-born left-back David Tutonda, 19, is earning rave reviews on loan at Newport and has scored a couple of quality goals. He’s quick, athletic, aggressive and talented. He could go out on loan, but may yet be added to Slade’s squad. Tom James, Ben Nugent and Uruguayan defender Maxi Amondarain are others who need to play. It’s been two years since Amondarain, 22, was signed during the Malky Mackay reign. He is under contract until 2017 and is unlikely to leave, but could say yes to a loan move.
Who could leave?
If Fabio stays I can’t see Merthyr Tydfil-born Declan John, a senior Wales international, remaining in the squad. The teenager needs to be playing and is currently hitting form on loan at Barnsley. I believe he should stay and play for City, but he can’t afford to sit out for long spells in the next campaign.
Fellow full-back Kevin Theophile (currently on loan at St Etienne) is very much in a similar position. Welsh international centre-back Danny Gabbidon and Adedeji Oshilaja are also poised to head through the exit door.
What they need?
Much will depend on Slade’s future plans for McNaughton. Peltier needs competition at right-back and whether the Bluebirds boss sees the Scot as the man to provide that, remains to be seen. If not then the recruitment of a right-sided defender is crucial. Also what next season holds for full-backs Tutonda and Tom James plus centre-backs Nugent and Amondarain could also dictate recruitment policy.

Midfield How have they done?

Wide men Anthony Pilkington and Craig Noone have delivered for the Bluebirds at times this season but both have had a mixed campaign to reflect on. For Pilkington it was hamstring troubles that hasn’t seen the Norwich man start a match since November while Noone almost signed for promotion-chasing Norwich in the January transfer window and his form has dipped since then. In central midfield it’s been a difficult mix and City have found it difficult to come up with the right chemistry in that area. Slade stuck by Peter Whittingham and Aron Gunnarsson though.
Who’ll stay?
Pilkington and Noone both have the quality needed. Noone is attracting attention from other clubs but he should be persuaded to stay. Matty Kennedy, still only 20, and Kadeem Harris will provide the competition. All are capable of finding space, but Pilkington leads the way in terms of delivery. All four will be working on that final ball in pre-season. And they will again be two of his main men, but neither have been at their best. In central midfield Stuart O’Keefe and Joe Ralls have provided the main competition for the Whittingham-Gunnarsson axis and should do so again.
Who’ll go out on loan?
Tommy O’Sullivan, currently on loan at Port Vale, also needs regular first team action. He is hugely talented and has been overlooked for too long. Though it looks like more time out on loan as is the case for Filip Kiss and Theo Wharton.
Who could leave?
Conor McAleny will head back to Premier League Everton after his loan move to South Wales while Kagisho Dikgacoi’s injury woes since his arrival from Crystal Palace last summer could spell the end of a miserable season at the Bluebirds. Slade won’t take the risk of starting with him next season unless he believes that will change. Tom Adeyemi, signed by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer from Birmingham City last summer, has struggled to break in and could be moving on.
What they need?
If Noone moves on Slade will need to add a new wide midfield player of genuine Championship class, while a second new central midfield player to step up the competition could be needed. It’s clear City have cash to spend on the right players and the success of their signings will be crucial to what happens next season. A central midfield player able to impose himself and take a lead from the heart of the team and a centre-forward who has power, movement and a finishing ability.
Many would argue City need two new midfield players, but Whittingham and Gunnarsson are both players who will make an impact next season. I’d also love to see Stuart O’Keefe given his chance and as a Slade signing that is likely to happen.

Strikers How have they done?
Cardiff scored 55 league goals in 45 matches this season - 12 of their Championship rivals scored more. That tally must rise.
The least number of goals among teams in the play-offs is Middlesbrough’s 68 - and they have only conceded 37 goals.
Eoin Doyle and Joe Mason have linked well and both scored against Blackpool, but they are not the complete answer.
Alex Revell is honest and willing, but I want to see more quality. Federico Macheda has an abundance of talent, but doesn’t show that often enough, while Kenwyne Jones, out on loan on the South Coast, is City’s most prolific scorer.
Who’ll stay?
It’s a pretty short list here with Doyle, Alex Revell and Mason likely to be the only strikers kept on.
Who will go out on loan?
Etien Velikonja is clearly surplus to requirements and he’s been out on loan for long spells. He is, though, under contract for another season and is unlikely to give that up. I would expect a new loan deal unless Cardiff can reach an agreement on his contract.
Also Rhys Healey is another expected to head out on a loan move.
Who could leave?
Some of these are under contract, but Cardiff could bring in money for them. Adam Le Fondre seems keen to head north, while Javi Guerra is surely craving the Spanish sunshine. Malaga, where he has been on loan, don’t seem keen, but the striker looks certain to go.
Guerra could be one of seven forwards on their way including Jones, Nicky Maynard and Macheda.
City would expect a fee for Jones, who could stay at Bournemouth, and Macheda. Maynard is out of contract this summer and City won't recoup any of the £2.5m they paid West Ham for him. Danny Johnson also has an uncertain future.
What they need?
Clearly with a big clear out up front the striking department is an area desperate for an overhaul. Kenwyne Jones is a striker who can strike fear into opposing defenders, but I can’t see him being back with the Bluebirds next season after being sent out on loan to Championship high-flyers Bournemouth this campaign. A striker to help fire up the Bluebirds’ 2015-16 season is a must if Jones heads out of the Cardiff City

KTC to St Etienne £2m. Good luck! I liked KTC as a player.

Something not quite in kilter about the way he disappeared off there on loan this year. My personal opinion is that it was a consequence of something that transpired during the Malky / Moody affair.

He moved out to be closer to his family following a close death if I remember, so I don't think it was anything sinister beyond the fact he is now happy back on France and was probably on premiership wages.

Story sounds familiar Red, but I thought that's why there was a delay in signing him originally, hence the John Brayford purchase.

Had a look to be sure, he left training in July of 2014 to be closer to family, then officially joined St Etienne the following month. They are also in with a chance of champions league football still next year, so I doubt he is too devestated to cut his stay short transfer gossip - MOVES OUT 692773407

I would paste the link to the story, but for some reason it won't let me again. It's on the BBC site, posted 19th July.

Sadly, he might have got more games and been better off staying here than going out on loan.
All the best Kev.

Yes, definitely Sad

It's a shame we didn't get to say goodbye to him on the pitch.

I'm assuming/hoping he plans on carrying on playing professionally at a lower level, because I would have him back as a coach in a heartbeat and it would be pretty disgraceful for the club to not give him the opportunity. He could at the very least teach them about acceptable workrates.
