What an amazing occasion the Ryder Cup has been yet again. The fact that Europe wore traditional Cardiff City colours made it extra special!

It used to be GB & Ireland until the format was changed to make the competition more competitive as the USA were winning so often.
Perhaps it is getting to the point where we need to allow USA to stretch their team to The Americas to make it more competitive now.
Great performance by Europe again and the winning point brought home by a Welshman too

Not sure that there are any golfer outside the USA that would make the grade. This really highlights how far European golf has come since 1979. The European Tour plays all around the world whereas the PGA Tour is confined to the US and it shows.

If I hear one more thing about Jamie Donaldson..
Yes, his match just happened to be the final nail in the coffin for America, but considering we won the series 16.5 to 11.5, it was hardly a momentous victory. He did well, but his record wasn't anything special over many other players in the squad. How about Graeme McDowell, who won every match he played? Doubisson and Rose, unbeaten in every match they played. Rory McIlroy was in disappointing form until Sunday, where he suddenly found his A game and completely and utterly blew Ricky Fowler away. Ian Poulter fighting poor form all season to retain his unbeaten record in Ryder cup single play? There's loads of individual victory stories - I wish people would stop pretending Jamie Donaldson swept in on a giant Welsh dragon and singlehandedly won the Ryder cup...

Ian Paltry garnered two halves and didn't win a game whilst Saint Jamie and the other Celts swept Europe to victory.

This morning, my French golfing friend was regaling me with stories of how Debuissey had single handedly won the Ryder Cup for Europe, but grudgingly admitted a little help from the Irish, Scot & Welsh........but never "Les Anglais".....

Way to go guys, respond to my critisicism of championing the Welsh player by criticising the English players. Nice living up to the stereotype...
The Northern Irish won the Ryder cup, if anyone.

In defence of the English, how is it no-one has mentioned the immense contribution of Justin Rose? There were times when he just steamrollered the opposition, especially during the foursomes/fourballs when the crucial lead was established. And yes, McDowell was superb on that final day, real grit to come back the way he did and get the win at the top of the board, thats why he was picked to go off first.

Yes, Justin Rose was a prince amongst Englshmen, but regrettably the other two, Westwood and Poulter, fell a little short of their usual very high standards. Age, I fear, is catching up with Westwood.
It may seem churlish to say so, but I feel that the captain's pick of Stephen Gallacher owed much to having a token Scot on board at Gleneagles. Horses for courses.......imo Luke Donald should have been there.

Oh, ok......no need for me to defend the English, then. Lets face it they were crap, weren't they.......Red614 wrote:The Tonker wrote:In defence of the English, how is it no-one has mentioned the immense contribution of Justin Rose?
