who would u prefer as owner at this moment in time? taking into account tans love for fans
I thought we should add a poll.
If you had to chose, no abstaining!
I would still choose Tan, although sam knows how to talk the talk, tan should have a better grasp on the finances ( apart from the summer transfer window).

From a pure club perspective, Sam knew how to run a football club and keep it's fans happy. He appreciated the influence the fans could have and I think City fans were as happy as they had been for a long time with him in charge.
However, all of that doesn't hide what he did to the club. He may of kept us happy but he nearly buried us in the meantime with the amount of debt he provided.
At this very point in time for that reason, it has to be Tan. But it is kind of like asking me whether id prefer to wear a Swansea shirt at a city game or skip into Annis' local wearing nothing but a red shirt and a Vincent Tan mask.

Though at this point in time, Tan is guilty of those things as well. He's deceived the fans on more than one occasion and increased out debt rather than reducing it. With no guarantee of writing it off, the balance could change pretty quickly.

There doesn't appear to be a Sir Herbert Merrett option.

Our likely relegation changes everything from Tan's perspective. It doesn't make any business sense to convert to equity as the value of the stock is likely to drop if we go down.
This is why he is so upset.......not only has his money been poorly spent, he faces further devaluation on the investment if the club falls in value. It makes perfect sense for him to keep the debt as a loan for the time being, even if it is interest free.

See for me it's just one excuse after another. First it was 'I want to own the majority of the club first' - he did that bit still no withdrawal of debt. Then it was 'I want to wait until it's safe'. Now, in the most recent interview he's denied ever having plans to write it off. He seems
To think the truth is too good for us.

sir herbert was a bit before my involvemet, but many spoke highly of him.
yes sam was a passionate club chairman, but that applies to all chairmen. we all thought sam was pouring his money into this club, when clearly that was not so. he created the impression that his heart bled for city when it bled for the langston corporation.
at the risk of upsetting many, i do believe peter ridsdale did the best he could under difficult circumstances

Without giving away my age? I do go back as far as the days of Sir Herbert, and likeable gentleman that he was, the fans of that era still moaned about the way the board under his chairmanship failed to invest in the playing staff of the club. As I have stated on a previous thread, in the world of football, some things don't change. Where finances are concerned, apart from the Stadia and facilities of most clubs, the biggest change, imho, has been the way in which player's wages have become grossly inflated, but then they have to be paid enough in 10 -15 years to keep them for the rest of their lives, whereas the majority of us have only had to work for about 50+ in the hope of getting a reasonable pension to see us through our latter days. I'd better stop there, I'm beginning to sound like an old man.
