Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's bid to bring his former Molde striker Mame Biram Diouf to Cardiff City is on hold after his club Hannover failed to bring their preferred replacement to the Bundesliga.
Mame Biram Diouf in action for Man United at Aldershot
Cardiff City's strike target Mame Diouf has been told he must stay at his club Hannover 96 after they failed in their bid to bring Chilean frontman Nicolas Castillo to the club.
The Bundesliga outfit had always said they would be prepared to let the former Manchester United and Molde striker leave for South Wales if they signed a replacement.
But after bids to bring the 20-year-old South American from Universidad Católica failed this weekend, manager Dirk Duffner has told Diouf he must stay put.
Reports in Germany say Hannover had agreed terms with Castillo, who has played once alongside Gary Medel in the Chile team, but his club set the transfer fee too high.
That led the manager to keep his Senegalese striker at their winter training camp in Turkey, saying: “We have negotiated long but at the moment Castillo is not coming."
"It does not look good.
“We would be willing to sell Dioufif we get another striker, so for now Mame will stay at the club.”

Does this mean we can panic and buy Finnbogasson or Dzeko now?

I don't think it'll happen (I know it won't actually), but Dzeko leaving Man City is still a distinct possibility. He will lose his place in the starting XI to Aguero again now which will relegate him to a super sub. A striker of Dzekos quality would start at virtually any other team in the world, so he may not be happy being benched.
He'll cost 20 million minimum though
