I still find it amazing that referees and officials don't know the rules of the game. What makes it worse is his excuse that he thought Marshall had dropped the ball - irrelevant as the rules still say tackling him would be a foul, the ball has to be thrown or kicked away.

I have posted "elsewhere" that I thought it was probable that neither the ref or the lino actually saw the incident and took a "Product Favouring" decision to minimise the magnitude of any potential backlash for a wrong decision.Red614 wrote:I still find it amazing that referees and officials don't know the rules of the game. Generally I sit in the "Goalkeepers are Over Protected" camp and I'm in two minds about this, even though technically it is a foul to nick a bouncing ball off a goalkeeper. My view is that if the goalkeeper has full control over the ball, and the process of bouncing releases that control, it cannot be nicked!
Maybe Marshall will stay awake now.

That's even worse in my opinion. The referee may be watching elsewhere, but the linesman should be watching the action, considering it's only twenty feet in front of him...NN2Red2 wrote:I have posted "elsewhere" that I thought it was probable that neither the ref or the lino actually saw the incident and took a "Product Favouring" decision to minimise the magnitude of any potential backlash for a wrong decision.Red614 wrote:I still find it amazing that referees and officials don't know the rules of the game. IF the lino was watching and gave the decision that Marshall "Dropped" the ball, given that the TV replays clearly show that he was in the process of bouncing the ball then the only conclusion you can be left with is worse still - Bent Lino.Red614 wrote:That's even worse in my opinion. I can actually accept that all involved (bar Eto'O) had a "Dreamy Moment" and missed the action. Infuriating, but these things can happen. My point really is that how often are the big teams on the receiving end of these decisions? My view is less often than perceived smaller clubs.

Anthony Taylor will referee villa v Everton next Saturday.
Thereby confirming that the FA respond to a referees costly mistake by doing absolutely nothing... Until it's Manchester United.

there is a school of thought that says when the goalie releases the ball he ceases to have full control over it

An incorrect school of thought, because the rules say it's a foul.davewebber65 wrote:there is a school of thought that says when the goalie releases the ball he ceases to have full control over it

FIFA Rulebook, Law 12:
"A goalkeeper is considered to be in control of the ball:
• while the ball is between his hands or between his hand and any surface (e.g. ground, own body)
• while holding the ball in his outstretched open hand
• while in the act of bouncing it on the ground or tossing it into the air"

The rules also state:
"A player must be penalised for playing in a dangerous manner if he kicks or attempts to kick the ball when the goalkeeper is in the process of releasing it"

Lino should be dropped if he made the decision as the ref didn’t see it! And they both should be made to attend referee collage again!
And another point.
Did anyone else here the commentator say “Turner should of headed that one or at least get it on target”….. after replay ……” Oh he was slightly held back”.
Ok that is the sort of game we are going to have today is it! Cheating Chelski!
