a couple of weeks ago i went down with shingles so quite happy to spend time in the garden without a shirt. it is too bloody painful to wear clothes around my back and stomach

Sorry to hear that, Dave, sounds nasty. I'm currently suffering from tendonitis, so trying not to do anything too strenuous. But I think digging up the concrete embedded clothes line and moving it down to the bottom of the garden in preparation for the imminent (so they claim) arrival of the builders will be on the agenda.
Apart from that, it will be rugby and tennis (watching). And the Ashes start on Wednesday.....
