Putting aside for a minute that we have yet to sign a single player for our first premiership campaign (despite our supposed advantage for early promotion), I am confident that Malky with strengthen the squad enough to fight off relegation. With the Premier League fixtures released this Thursday just gone, I thought I would go through each of the fixtures, grouping the games into mini leagues of five (as Malky himself does) to see how we could get on. So here goes (play along if your like):

Aug 17 A West Ham United   – 1
Aug 24 H Manchester City     – 0
Aug 31 H Everton                  - 1
Sep 14 A Hull City                 – 3
Sep 21 H Tottenham Hotspur  - 0

Total Points 5

Sep 28 A Fulham                    - 1

Oct 05 H Newcastle United      - 1
Oct 19 A Chelsea                    - 0
Oct 26 A Norwich City             – 3
Nov 02 H Swansea City           – 3

 Total Points   8
Nov 09 A Aston Villa       –  1
Nov 23 H Manchester United – 0
Nov 30 H Arsenal          - 0
Dec 03 A Stoke City  -   1
Dec 07 A Crystal Palace – 3

                                   Total Points 5

Dec 14 H West Bromwich Albion – 3
Dec 21 A Liverpool              - 0
Dec 26 H Southampton       – 3
Dec 28 H Sunderland          - 3
Jan 01 A Arsenal                - 0

 Total Points 9

Jan 11 H West Ham United  - 3
Jan 18 A Manchester City    - 0
Jan 28 A Manchester United  - 0
Feb 01 H Norwich City         – 3
Feb 08 A Swansea City       – 1

 Total Points 7

Feb 11 H Aston Villa        -  3
Feb 22 H Hull City            - 3
Mar 01 A Tottenham Hotspur – 0
Mar 08 H Fulham         – 3
Mar 15 A Everton           – 1

Total Points 10

Mar 22 H Liverpool             –     0
Mar 29 A West Bromwich Albion    -1
Apr 05 H Crystal Palace         – 3
Apr 12 A Southampton            - 1
Apr 19 H Stoke City                - 3

Total Points 8

Apr 26 A Sunderland  - 0
May 03 A Newcastle United – 0
May 11 H Chelsea        - 0

Total Points 0
Season Total Points predicted then is 52 points – if we were in the PL last season and had that number of points we would have finished 8th. Not bad for a first season in the big time! Perhaps that is a bit ambitious? What do you think?

I'm a bit more pessimistic - 45 points.

It will all revolve around the signings.

We will still be difficult to beat, but the problem we have will be goal scoring and winning games.  We relied a lot on goals from set pieces last season, but that will not be good enough at the top level.

With the squad as it is, then 40 points might be a struggle........
