Not sure its great news. Did well for us but has been with 2 clubs in the Prem and failed to establish a first team place with either of them. Got to be a doubt whether he is good enough. Would prefer to see a proven high quality centre half come in.
Yup, did well for us at the end of last season. Although I think Nugent is clearly a talent, he did make a he few howlers (reminded me of Purse in that sense) and probably isn't ready for Premiership football yet.

malky obviously sees something in him otherwise he wouldn't do it. we know how astute the man is. would really like to see a hudson/barnett partnership at the back, see how well they play together

Barnett's distribution is as bad as Turner's and SuperKev's and to me that is a concern. We are not going to win anything if we can't keep the ball.
Look at how many clean sheets we kept when he came into the squad - being a centre back you have to take a significant amount of credit for that.
He also quite young for a cab, 27, and still has time to grow as has Hudson. For my money, he will be a good squad player

Sometimes it's a case of better the devil you know.
Overall, he didn't do much wrong in his loan spell.

Agreed, cracking defender, but I wonder whether we need more control on distribution from defence.

I echo the poor distribution sentiment from TDA. At our worst our defence can feel very disjointed from the rest of the squad. If they break down an attack they tend to boot the ball anywhere away from the goal, often leading to the opposition just attacking all over again. Barnett's headers while impressive weren't exactly accurate.
Of course, if Malky's plan is to make our full backs the true link into our midfield, having two behemoths like Hudson and Barnett standing in our penalty box like Gandalf screaming 'YOU SHALL NOT PASS!' at that flaming thing sounds like a great idea.
I've gotten sidetracked. We're we talking about Leon Barnett or Lord of the Rings?
