The Pinnacle of My Footballing Supporterdomness

I had a revelation today at about 3.15pm this afternoon - my life as a football fan (and Welsh sports fan) may never get better than this season and I am OK with that. Here's why.
This season...
- Cardiff City got promoted to the top flight after 50-odd years of being, frankly, a bit s**t. Not only that, they led most of the way AND won the title. What's more, the media UNANIMOUSLY said we deserved it, if not for some of our performances this season but certainly for our efforts over the past four. The future is potentially bright but as TDA said "there are no guarantees in sport".
- A player from Cardiff got voted Best Premiership player at 23. He was also in the shortlist for goal of the season with TWO of his efforts (but when will we see that sell-on clause money, eh? )
- On a personal note, my second team (it's a family thing) got promoted via the playoffs today back to League One and are on the rise again
On the Welsh front...
- Wales turned the corner on the international circuit and started to pick up some decent results
- Wrexham won a trophy and then went to Wembley...
-... where they lost the play off final, but that's ok, as it was to another Welsh team in Newport County. Welcome back Newport!
- Like them or loathe them, Swansea won their first piece of silverware this year and thoroughly deserved it and credit where it is due, they are doing great things for Welsh football (sorry)
- To bring in rugby, Wales won the six nations...again, while at the same time humbling England in a fantastic performance at the Millennium Stadium
Add in some Welsh Olympic success last year, a Carling Cup Final for City (and I'm sure I've forgotten a few things ) and it really has been an absolutely incredible year for Welsh sport - and Cardiff. It has been utterly unprecedented and thoroughly enjoyable. While I don't wish to be a downer when we're all still basking in the various joyous wins but success in sport tends to be cyclical and I can't help but feel that as a nation, we might very well have peaked! I could be completely wrong of course but realistically I don't envisage a time when we will have such a level of broad success as a nation, at least in footballing terms, or on such a personal level for me.
Of course, who knows what lies ahead? I'm just very, very glad that I got to see this day and appreciate it for what it is and might very well be.
(Oh, and I've managed to wangle a free ticket to the Champions League Final next week. WIN! :bounce: )

Haven't finished reading yet, but deserves flair for effort today......
I'll be honest, it's not my best or most lucid piece of writing but in my defence, I am VERY hungry right now.
Have flair for sticking with it...err, if you do...

Can't tell you why I didn't finish reading, not if you have just eaten anyway, but I have now and, yes, I agree with everything you say......
It has been a fantastic year, particularly for a Welshman abroad surrounded by English & Scots...... :cup:

I've seen some big teams play at Jenner Park. Gonna have to move to Bala Town now instead.
Cracking piece Arkay, you are absolutely right. 2012 slash 2013 - The Year of the (Welsh) Dragon!
It will probably be the best year in Welsh Football for a very long time. Although I still hope to see more from Cardiff and the national side in my life time.

It's an ok piece of writing but the unnecessary and superfluous use of both 'today' and 'this afternoon' in the first sentence completely ruined it for me.

You are absolutely right Cyncoed but as previously explained I was ravenously hungry and not able to think straight, by that, mean I was considering glittering myself up and swishing into Soho to watch a musical...

Must be an age thing, right Cyncoed?
Forgetfulness and confusion aren't prerequisites of age. With maturity comes clarity of thought and the sale of Toshack was a bloody disgrace only days before the cup final.
