When Nirvana were told they couldn't play their instruments live on Top Of The Pops for their song Smells Like Teen Spirit, they decided to rip the piss.
Kurt decided to sing in an operatic voice (vocals were the only thing that were live) and kept his hands either inches from the frets or off the guitar completely, Krist spent the entire performance swinging his bass over his head and Dave danced behind the drums the entire time.
Subsequently, TOTP would no longer allow artists to sing live after this performance.
Fact.

Genius
The first time I ever heard Nirvana was on 'The Word'... I still can't process in my brain whether the show was shite or alright but just for airing stuff like this I have to cut the producers some slack...

Is that Dave Grohl on the drums? Or is it pre 1990?

Yep, that's Dave Grohl.
Nirvana are my Hendrix. Whenever I see a kid walking around in a Nirvana top who wasn't even born when Cobain died, I feel compelled to go and tell them about seeing Nirvana at Reading. I don't tell them because at my age and appearance I fear I'll come across as if my next line will be "Do you want to see some puppies. I've got some in the van. Come and look"

I feel the same way when I see kids wearing 'Dollar', 'Racey' or 'Rubettes' T shirts... Except those T shirts don't exist....

I think we've just stumbled upon the fabled gap in the market.

My assumption is that those three have nothing to do with currency...therefore I'm out (as I haven't got a clue what they are)
Muse pulled a similar stunt when being forced to mime in Italy recently - they all basically swapped around instruments with drummer pretending to be mark Bellamy would find the video if I wasn't on the mobile

Must have been easy for Muse to pretend to be other people they've been pretending they're Radiohead for years.
