The bloke that sits next to me at CCS needs one of these......(sorry Dad!)
Brazilian authorities have inserted a number of ‘double wide’ seats into the stadiums being built for the 2014 World Cup so that even the most portly of fans can watch the tournament from the stands in comfort.
The seats are double the width of normal stadium seats and are specially reinforced to support a weight of up to 40 stones.
They are actually mandatory under Brazilian disability laws (it’s a legal requirement that at least 1% of the total seating must be set aside for heifers) , though that doesn’t stop them being double the price of a normal seat .
Whereas you’re looking at paying around £19 for standard fare, the super-sized seats will cost you around £38.

Blimey - I'm surprised that the UK, surely the king of disability and H&S laws in the world, haven't gone for a similar idea.
Question is, does this sort of practice say that being overly obese is ok?

And where do you put the seats?
Do they have to sit in the disabled section now or would you go to the stadium one day and find that your season ticket seat is now half of someone else's seat?

Good point Rhys, I think the embarrassment of not being able to fit in your seat is a good thing - it should encourage you to want to lose weight. Personally if I became so obese that an airline requests I buy two seats before they let me fly I'd die of embarrassment and be in the gym the very next day.

Not a bad idea. I can sit in the blue one and put my burger in the left tray and my fries and coke in the left tray.
