Luncheon, commonly abbreviated to lunch, is a midday meal, and is generally smaller than dinner, which is the main meal of the day whenever dinner is eaten. The origin of the words lunch and luncheon relate to a small meal originally eaten at any time of the day or night, but during the 20th century gradually focused toward a small meal eaten at midday.
Additionally, Blackburn want to sign some loanees.

Well no team should have three appointed managers in one season.
And they clearly have the best team in the division (on paper) which makes you question why loan signings are needed...perhaps Appleton feels he needs his own guys in.

I don't think we were posh enough to have luncheon when I was a lad - it was always dinner in the middle of the day, and tea at, well, tea-time.

I normally have breakfast, followed by a light brunch, a filling lunch, then tea, a nice hearty dinner, then supper before bed. I might have some amuse-bouche or hors d'oeuvre's with every course just to whet the appetite

What about elevenses? And is there room for high tea between lunch and tea? You also forgot the midnight snack.

I've been missing out! But don't worry about whether I put on weight, as I'm bulimic.

Didn't he play left back for Sparta Prague in the late 1950s?

Lunch or "déjeuner" is still the main meal in France.
In fact, the whole bloody place closes down from midday for anything up to 2 and a half hours whilst they gorge themselves on the 11€ "set menu", effectively a mélange of everything left from the day before. It's not that there is that much food involved that takes the time, it's more their inability to shut up for a few minutes and eat the wretched stuff.

Damn French. Ever since we defeated them at Waterloo, they are almost as despicable a nation as the Italian's.
Both are lovely holiday destinations however

Maybe that's why they didn't get to govern their own country between 1940-1944?
Oh sorry I'd forgotten about the Vichy regime in the South until 1943
