Many betting agencies, not notably Skybet, have slashed the odds of him joining Cardiff City to 10/1 after a flurry of very large bets being placed on it happening. It makes them one of the favourites odds wise. Is this the superstar Tan was talking about?

Bluntly, I doubt this will happen. I'm just bringing the news here for discussion, it doesn't mean I believe it. He will return to a low premiership side or go back into Europe before returning to most likely United in a coaching role. A man of his age won't want to get stuck in a championship promotion fight, especially when there are definetely premiership teams after him.

I would take him, nqat. We need someone to challenge Whitts for a place. Its not right that he is guaranteed a place no matter what. Needs to work to keep it.

It only takes one person to bung a fiver on and the odds tumble on Skybet.

I'd take him in a heartbeat if we could. He's one of these players it's become popular to dislike, and in doing so it's easy to forget just how good a player he was and how overqualified he would be for your own club. For example we make jokes about Torres too, but he'd tear this division apart if he showed up here.

This is a guy that has Manchester United and Real Madrid among his past clubs, and still has rumoured interest from PSG today. He might be out of shape having played in the very weak MLS for some time now, but if he finds the form he's capable of he'll be among the very best in the league. We like to brag about how Whittingham is better than him, but lets be honest prime vs prime he's nowhere near. Now with Whittinghama veteran of the league and Beckham back to 'proper' football maybe the difference would be harder to spot, but it's still there.

I'm pretty sure he will end up at a London club because that's where his nauseating wife will want to live and they will want to bring their kids up. I can't think of a single reason why he would want to join City.

At first, I was all like Nooooooooo!

Then I went like, maaaaayyybeeee...

Now, I'm sooo like yeeeeeeeeahh!

Subject to some T&Cs.

IF he ever decided he wanted to come here (and as Happy Days says, I cannot see a reason why he would) and it didn't mess up our wage bill then he would be a class signing. He is very much in the Malky mould - high work rate, good defensive cover. His distribution and set piece ability are well known as is his eye for goal, he's never had any pace but neither has Whittingham. The prospect of those two dictating play from the middle of the park (although, probably not on the field at the same time) would be frankly phenomenal and easily Premiership class.

From a purely business perspective, the kind of exposure and worldwide publicity he would bring would be exactly what the Malaysians would want and would firmly ensconce us with the Asian markets.

If he wants to come and we can afford him, bring it on I say - but frankly, I don't think he would or we could and it is massive pie in the sky.

Mmmmm, pie...

Giggs or Beckham, or Gickham as I shall collectively call them, would not be signed on a predominantly football ability basis. Either would be brought in to continue our pursuit of marketing in Asia. Their performances on the pitch would likely be secondary. Not saying they are bad players but if they were 25 and had the same ability we wouldn't be particularly interested. Beckham would be preferable, because as the ravishing looking Arkay pointed out, his traits of high work ethic, good set pieces and excellent passes make him similar to Whitts.

I still think these are a red herring though, or any other type of fish that throws you off track (like salmon or trout, I only like white fish but I'm not racist). The real signing probably hasn't become apparent.

Just a note of interest, we received quite a lot of new traffic yesterday to this very thread, from people that have never visited the forum before, with the key google search words as 'Beckham to sign for Cardiff'.

This old chestnut again a?

So what you're saying is you want us to keep posting about Beckham and nude pictures of Mila Kunis that we don't have in order to improve site hits?

Beckham may be past his best, but calling him an old chestnut seems a bit harsh.....
