Marshall - I don't remember Blackpool having a shot on target so I'll assume he knew that free kick was going to hit the post and that's way it looked like it had him beaten all ways up. - 7
McNauhgton - Blackpool are a tough team for any full back to play and Ince being out made Super-Kev's day a bit easier than it might have been. One piece of classic McNaughton covering and some nice support of the attack - 7
Connolly - You score twice you get a good rating but today Connolly looked the equal of Hudson as a defender. Very good performance. - 9
Hudson - it is a bit daft to get booked in the last minute of 3-0 win. The clean sheet bonus must be good. - 7
Taylor - Malky singled him out for praise and who am I to disagree with our manager? An anonymous bloke on the internet that's who! Kevin Phillips should of scored from a cross that came in from Taylor's side and Matt Phillips was finding it too easy to pick up the ball from long clearences. And no Andrew, you don't get extra points for looking a bit battleworn at the end; you are not Terry Butcher. - 6
Smith - There must have been an orphange fire some where that he had to attend to, hence the feigned injury. - 7
Whittingham - The usual sweetness from his meillifluous left despite some nasty treatment from Holloway's cowards. Having Whittingham play for you must be like being married to Michael-Angelo and trying to remember what it was like when your bathroom ceiling was painted brilliant white like everyone else's. - 9
Gunnarson - Dogged play but still some way from his best. Needs to slim down and regain some agility. Mutch will stroll back into the team - 6
Noone - This will happen a lot this season: Noone gets the ball and sets off on a mazy run, four defenders close in to gawp at his trickery, the ball is played back to Whittingham who spins it out to an unmarked Smith/Bellamy/McNaughton advancing into the area. Noone was easily as much of a threat as Matt Philips has ever been but also won a lot of ball, tracking back and nicking it off the toes of unsuspecting Blackpool players. - 9
Helguson - First spotted being too slow when played in by Bellamy, next spotted going off. Not as good as Mason. - 6
Bellamy - The reason Holloway will never get a job at a top club was shown today with his handling of Bellamy- he did nothing to stop him and it cost the thick worzel git. Bellamy had far too much space to run into both when playing up front and later on when he went wide. Dangerous with the ball he led our defending from the front, constantly pressing and harrassing Blackpool when they tried to pointlessly Swansea it around the back four - 9
Mason - I think he's better than Helguson. - 8
Kim - Err, umm, not quite the home debut we'd all hoped for. Played one sweet ball to Mason but otherwise looked a bit off standard. - 5
Cowie - Not on for very long but he kicked some one who deserved to be kicked.
The officials - If you win you generally love the ref but not today. Whitts was twice caught late without mention. Yes the ref played advantage but both challenges were so late they were easy advantages to play and the players should have been booked when the ball went dead. Both #3 and #6 should have already been on bookings when they were eventually booked. The linesman on the Ninian side was little better. Severl obvious throw-ins went the wrong way and they missed an obvious corner for Blackpool and then gave us one straight after that was clearly a goal kick. - 3

Couldn't argue with that.
I definitely think Helguson is lucky to be in the starting XI. Won a few headers but not much else.

This is how I will always describe Whitts from now on. Top rating there Sir, I give you an 8/10 and some flair.

Very harsh on Gunnarson and Taylor in my view. Both played very well. Sounds to me as if you have preconceived ideas about those players

Not at all. I am a huge fan of Gunnarson in particular but today he played like a run of the mill Championship midfielder. He can play much better and I expect him to return to form this season and give Malky a selection headache but right now he is some way behind Much.

I'll say this for Gavin Rae, when we were down to him and Wildiq in midfield and Rae was carrying an injury he did always manage to play. I don't know that he was taking pain killing injections to play but i believe he was and that is enough for me to point out that Jay Bothroyd might have followed suit for the play off final, the big girl.

Sigh...I picked a bad week to drop Bellamy and replace him with Mackail-Smith didn't I? Ill see what happens next week then I might be forced to eat humble pie and put him back in.
You get to make a retain number food transfers. I don't know, but I don't think he will play or score reguarly enough to demand a space.Red614 wrote:Sigh...I picked a bad week to drop Bellamy and replace him with Mackail-Smith didn't I? More important for automatic promotion than Marshall's gloves IMO... I did laugh yestday when the Blackpool free kick hit the bar/post and Marshall caressed the upright There are not many boards where you can post "caressed the upright" without being banned

Thanks Kamuza a very entertaining, accurate and intelligent assessment of yesterday's performance

My mouse is hovering over the 'Report an abuse' option in the bottom corner but then I realised it's probably a self-abuse, so that's ok...I think.
