Results of an interesting wales online poll.

Formation

Some debate here but a clear winner among the fans.

Of the three formations we offered (4-4-2, 4-5-1 and 4-3-3) 65% of the voters wanted Mackay to go with two up top ahead of four midfielders. With Maynard out injured, who should fill that role? More of that later

Goalkeeper

There is no doubt Joe Lewis is an able deputy, but the solid form of David Marshall sees him the firm favourite for the number one jersey with 96% of the vote.

Defenders

A limit to the amount of strength in depth here, but a clear choice of back four for the fans.

Andrew Taylor and Kevin McNaughton have been solid enough without setting the world alight, and a lack of competition sees them selected as the clear first-choice full-backs. McNaughton was selected by 97% of supporters, while Taylor bagged himself 82%.

Mark Hudson’s strong form sees him as the number one choice at centre-back with a 94% selection rate, with the big decision clearly between Connolly and Turner.

Despite Connolly’s decent form and ability to play across the back four, he only secured a place in 42% of people’s teams, with the returning Turner tipped to go straight back in the side with an 81% selection rate.

Midfield

Plenty of options here with Cardiff boasting an abundance of talent in the midfield.

That said, there is a pretty clear train of thought among the fans we surveyed.

Peter Whittingham, with five goals already this season, was the first name on the team sheet, making 99% of fans’ teams.

Alongside him, the dynamic Jordon Mutch got 76% of the vote, while new signing Craig Noone was another hugely popular choice, with a 93% selection rate.

That leaves one place left in a four-man midfield, and its the talented Tommy Smith who gets the nod, with 70% of the vote.

Kim Bo-Kyung, who’s contribution has been fleeting so far, misses out despite being selected by 30% of fans.

Strikers

The decision of most people to opt for a 4-4-2 formation means we have thrown Craig Bellamy up front in our fans’ team.

Bellamy was the standout choice among the attacking options, with 95% of the vote.

That leaves one position to be filled, which is taken by Heidar Helguson - just!

Despite being a clear favourite with manager Mackay, the Ice man has yet to fully convince at Cardiff City Stadium.

However, his experience and ability to lead the line means he has just pipped youngster Joe Mason with a 50% selection rate compared to Mason’s 43%.

Yes, probably about right.

Cowie is no where near the strongest XI - perhaps people are a bit harsh since he is not actually that bad, but for me it is simple. There is simply a number of players at the club who are better than Cowie.

It'll be the rogue elephants within KCB who want us to lose every game....

Gunnarrson? He's doing his best to upstage Whitts afterall Wales Online Poll: Fan's Strongest XI 692773407

It is funny that Malky's squad selection gets so much critiscism, but when you ask the fans they pick the exact sane line-up. I hate to say it, but it's plastics looking for something to complain about.

I think once we truly see the best of Kim Bo-Kyung, he will take Smith's place in the favoured 11...though I think highly of Smith!

I think some fans find it hard to understand that we won't win every game and have kittens when we have an off day.
