The man coveted by Liverpool, Spurs, Inter and Napoli for the past year has gone to..... Southampton

Wow. That is some coup.

Every single day I look at stories like this I realise how screwed up football is becoming. Yes you could argue about their parachute payments, investments and lots of other stuff, but what the hell is a club that was League one only two years ago doing spending nearly 20 million on one player? I don't doubt his quality, but a struggling Premiership team should have no right flashing that sort of cash around.

Their entire revenue for last season was around £17-18 million if previous years are a guide.
Committing that much money to one player is bonkers.
And he didn't look that good in the Olympics.

It could certainly backfire spectacularly on them. A man like him wants top level football and if Southampton end up getting relegated he's going to want out immediately. Multi-million pound loss right there and then.

It says on the link 11.8 million! Still a ridiculous amount or a newly promoted team to be spending!

I heard somewhere another 6 million would have to be paid to the club he played for before the current one due to a contract clause, might be wrong though.

Ahh right, surely his previous club can't request 6million to be added on to the players next sale? I know they can have a sell on clause but never heard of clubs requesting a set sum

Yeah I think, if im right, the transfer is 18 million with the selling club being required to give 6 million to the old club as a sell on clause.
But also as I said I may well of daydreamed all of this so I wouldn't take my word as gospel
